Chapainawabganj Correspondent: Global Handwashing Day was observed in Chapainawabganj through a series of events, including a rally, a discussion meeting, and a handwashing demonstration. The programs were organized on Wednesday (October 28) by the District Administration and the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE).
A rally commenced at 11:00 AM from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. This was followed by a discussion meeting held in the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, where Deputy Commissioner Abu Saleh Md. Musa Jangi addressed the gathering as the chief guest.
The meeting was presided over by Additional District Magistrate Anisur Rahman, with Civil Surgeon Dr. A.K.M. Shahab Uddin attending as a special guest. Representatives from non-governmental organizations and students also participated in the discussion.
Amit Kumar Sarkar, Executive Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering, highlighted various aspects of Global Handwashing Day through a multimedia presentation. He noted that approximately 550,000 children suffer from diarrhea each year due to improper handwashing, with 40 percent of these cases resulting in death.
Emphasizing the importance of handwashing—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic—the speakers stressed that hands must be thoroughly washed with soap or a dedicated handwash product before eating. They also advised those preparing food to ensure that no dirt or residue from vegetables remains on their hands.
The event was moderated by John Palash Hasda, Sub-Assistant Engineer at the Upazila Department of Public Health Engineering. Subsequently, students were taught the correct method for washing their hands.
