Chapainawabganj Correspondent: A special workshop was held in Chapainawabganj to raise awareness among students regarding issues such as drug abuse, child marriage, suicide, the dowry system, eve-teasing, cyber safety, traffic laws, and various other social offenses.
The workshop, organized by the District Sadar Model Police Station and the Traffic Police, took place on Wednesday (October 28) at Namoshankarbaty High School in Chapainawabganj. The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chapainawabganj, Gautam Kumar Biswas, attended the event as the chief guest and keynote speaker.
Addressing the students, the Superintendent of Police stated, "Today’s young students are the conscious citizens of tomorrow. Drug abuse is a root cause of many crimes. We must all work together to eradicate it; only then can we build a nation with a bright future."
He further emphasized that child marriage is a punishable offense that destroys a child`s potential for a better future. By law, marriage is prohibited for girls under the age of 18 and boys under the age of 21. Child marriage disrupts education, increases health risks, and often leads to domestic discord. He advised students to report any such incidents by calling 999 or contacting their nearest police station.
Regarding the prevention of suicide, the SP remarked, "Life is invaluable; no problem is greater than life itself. One should never make a tragic decision like suicide due to poor exam results, family pressure, eve-teasing, or emotional distress. If you feel down or hopeless, talk to your family, teachers, friends, or the police. Remember, suicide is never a solution."
The workshop also highlighted the importance of cyber safety, covering topics such as the cautious use of social media, protection against digital fraud, and safeguarding personal information online. Additionally, the importance of cultivating the habit of following traffic laws from a young age was underscored. Students were also instructed on the proper use of zebra crossings, foot-over bridges, and traffic signals. Additionally, the concept of a "Honesty Store" was discussed as a means to foster honesty, morality, and self-confidence among the students. Detailed discussions were also held on topics such as drug abuse, smoking, the dowry system, eve-teasing, inappropriate physical contact ("bad touch"), dishonesty, and the safe use of social media.
During the workshop, students raised various questions. Subsequently, a quiz competition was held, and those who provided the correct answers were rewarded.
The event was attended by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (Probationary), the Officer-in-Charge of the Sadar Model Police Station, a Traffic Inspector, members of the traffic police, the Headmaster of Namoshankarbati High School, and other faculty members.
The theme of the workshop was: "Abide by the law, build a safe life—become a conscious citizen."
