Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, (N), NPP, BCGMS, NDC, PSC, BN joined as the Chairman of Chittagong Port

Ctg Correspondent: Rear Admiral M. Shahjahan, (N), NPP, BCGMS, NDC, PSC, BN took over as the Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority on 31-01-2021. He replaced the outgoing Chairman Rear Admiral Sheikh Md. Abul Kalam Azad (G), NGP, NDC, PSC BN. Rear Admiral Mohammad Shahjahan, an officer of the Bangladesh Navy, was born on 31 December 1965. He was commissioned in the Bangladesh Navy on 01 January 1987. Rear Admiral Mohammad Shahjahan holds a master`s degree from the Defense Services Command and StaffCollege. He later obtained an MPhil degree in Development Studies from the NationalDefenseCollege and the Bangladesh University of Professional Studies. His research topic was ‘Impact of Port and Shipping on Economic Development of Bangladesh’.

He has completed a number of professional courses at home and abroad in his colorful career. Notable among them are the Mine Warfare course from Turkey and the Navigation Specialization course from India. Rear Admiral Mohammad Shahjahan was in command of several warships including frigates, patrol craft and ocean-going salvage vessels of the Bangladesh Navy. He has been a very successful naval shore base and captain of the School of Maritime Warfare and Tactics. He has also served as Officer in Charge and Instructor at the School of Navigation and Direction. The newly appointed chairman of ChittagongPort has served as Director Blue Economy at the Naval Headquarters, Deputy Drafting Commander, Staff Officer (Naval Recruitment) -1 and Staff Officer at various offices of the Naval Headquarters.

Rear Admiral M: Shahjahan has previously served as Chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, a member of the Chittagong Port Authority (Harbor and Marine), a member of the Blue Economy Cell in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and Deputy Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard at the Coast Guard headquarters under the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was awarded the NPP and BCGMS peacetime medals, respectively, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of the Chittagong Port Authority and the Bangladesh Coast Guard, two of the country`s top institutions.

Under the UN mission, he has been the team leader of the military observer team in Sierra Leone and the UN peacekeeping officer at the UN mission in Bancon-2 in Haiti.

Rear Admiral M. Shahjahan has traveled around the world including Australia, China, India, United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Finland, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar , Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria.

In private life he is married and has two (two) sons. He likes to play golf and travel.
