DU refutes claim of irregular appointment
  Date : 16-05-2025

Authorities at Dhaka University (DU) firmly denied allegations published in a national daily regarding improper staff appointments.

Vice-Chancellor`s office issued press release, on Sunday, signed by Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Acting Director of Public Relations against report titled "Dhaka University VC Appoints Favourite Candidate Without Circular", claiming "false, intentional and misleading".

University administration clarified that following last year`s student uprising, which resulted in significant administrative changes including new Vice-Chancellor appointment, staff reorganisation became necessary. Students had demanded transfer of officials associated with previous administration, particularly from Vice-Chancellor`s Office.

"Firoz Shah was transferred to Vice-Chancellor`s Office and assigned protocol duties due to shortage of manpower, long-standing trust and proven work efficiency," stated authority.

They emphasised this was neither new appointment nor promotion, but rather lateral transfer within same pay scale; a move fully authorised under Dhaka University Order of 1973, which empowers Vice-Chancellor to transfer any officer or employee between departments.

University administration highlighted that numerous precedents exist for such transfers and stressed Vice-Chancellor retains authority to reassign Firoz Shah to his original department if necessary.

Authorities expressed concern that misleading reporting has created unnecessary public confusion and requested publication of their clarification statement to restore factual understanding of situation.

This refute follow a report alleging DU administration`s appointment of Firoz Shah to permanent vacant post in Registrar`s Office without issuing job circular or conducting competitive examination.

Firoz, who currently works as Vice-Chancellor`s (VC) Protocol Officer, received promotion to Upper Division Assistant position, triggering widespread criticism.
