Staff Reporter : Human chains and protest rallies have been held across the country demanding the revocation of citizenship or execution of Kashfi Kakon and other bloggers who allegedly made derogatory comments about Islam and the Holy Quran on social media. Organized by Jamaat-e-Islam and its student wing, Shibir, these protests were joined by members of the Tawhidi Janata.
On Thursday, the 21st, rallies were held in Rajshahi and Chittagong. Following this, on Friday the 22nd, protests and human chains were held in Dhaka, Sylhet, Rangpur, Khulna, Barisal, and other regions of the country. Protesters submitted demands for justice and capital punishment to the Honorable Chief Adviser of the interim government. They called for the punishment of individuals including Kashfi Kakon, Mahel Ahmed, Shirajul Islam, and Saifur Rahman, accusing them of anti-Islamic behavior, and even burned effigies representing them.
Speakers at the protest stated that Kashfi Kakon and others are promoting atheism under the guise of humanitarianism by posting derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Holy Quran on Facebook from the UK. They urged for international cooperation, particularly from Interpol, to bring these individuals back to the country for punishment. Tawhidi Janata, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders warned of a larger movement if their demands were not met. Kashfi Kakon frequently shares controversial interpretations and comments about the Quran and Hadith on her verified Facebook page. Recently, she expressed support for the Women`s Reform Commission through several Facebook posts, which sparked protests across the country.
