Rafiqul Islam, Kushtia Correspondent: 2593 kg of banned polythene was seized in a drive in Mirpur, Kushtia and a fine of Tk 40,000 was imposed on the accused businessman.

On Tuesday (August 05) afternoon, a huge quantity of illegal banned polythene was seized from the ground floor godown of Abdul Gani Molla`s house in Chhatragachha, Baruipara Union of the upazila, with an estimated value of Tk 12 lakh.

Kushtia Battalion (47, BGB) and Kushtia Environment Department provided overall support in this drive led by Mirpur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Kazi Md. Meshkatul Islam.

Abdul Gani Molla has been fined Tk 40,000 under the Environment Protection Act 1995 for the crime of storing this huge amount of illegal banned polythene.

Mirpur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Kazi Md. Meshkatul Islam said that such campaigns will continue in the public interest.
