Staff Reporter: A special prayer was held at Shah Ali Shrine in Mirpur for the speedy recovery of Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman and national leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who has fallen ill with a fever. The event was organized immediately on Saturday night after Mohammad Mazharul Islam Payel, member of the JASAS Central Executive Committee and BNP nomination hopeful for Manikganj-2, informed the media and social networks. He emphasized that all party leaders and activists sincerely pray for Tarique Rahman’s swift recovery. Notably, Tarique Rahman was seen wearing a mask during an interview in London on Friday, October 10, and it was reported that he was suffering from fever and cold-related symptoms. Whether it is a common fever or COVID-19 has not yet been confirmed. As a precaution, he is receiving necessary medical care. According to party sources, Tarique Rahman had planned to travel to London with his family for Umrah on the 20th of this month. All preparations, including visa and tickets, were completed, but he had to postpone the trip due to sudden illness. Currently, preparations for his return to Bangladesh are nearly complete. Initially, he was scheduled to return in the third week of November, but now he intends to return in the second week to directly participate in the party’s election campaigns. It is not yet confirmed whether he will perform Umrah on his way back. This prayer at Shah Ali Shrine has become a unique moment in Bangladesh’s political landscape, where party members collectively prayed for the well-being of their leader.
