Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) in the southern region, has refuted claims that his party has distanced itself from BNP and Jamaat.
Speaking at a press conferencefollowing an NCP coordination meeting held at the party’s Pirojpur district office on Friday, he said that the party maintains cordial relations with those supporting reforms, while differences arise only with groups opposing reform.
Hasnat emphasised the need for elections to restore democracy, noting that Bangladesh endured a prolonged period without democratic governance during the one-eleven and subsequent authoritarian eras. “Through elections, we can initiate a democratic transition, and the NCP will play a key role in this journey,” he said.
On the question of a potential election alliance, Hasnat stated that party convenor Nahid Islam has already clarified NCP’s stance. The party’s core principle for alliances is identifying who supports reform, and decisions on coalition formation will follow accordingly.
The meeting was attended by NCP leaders including Barisal divisional organizational secretary Advocate Mujahidul Islam Shahin, central member and Barisal district chief coordinator Abu Saeed Musa, central joint secretary and Pirojpur district coordinator Moshiur Rahman, and other senior officials.
I can also shorten it into a punchy headline for online publication if you want. Do you want me to do that?
