Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said that BNP’s refusal to accept the proposed political reforms reflects irresponsibility and an attempt to create a new political crisis ahead of the February national election.
Speaking to reporters after addressing an election center directors’ meeting in his constituency, Chauddagram, on Friday, he said such a stance is also aimed at sowing public doubt about the upcoming polls.
Taher warned that if the election does not take place, “those who fled to India and are plotting from abroad will try to take advantage of the situation.” He added, “It seems BNP wants to return to the unreformed Bangladesh of the previous regime, but the people will not allow the country to fall back into the darkness of Awami misrule.”
He further said that if the government withdraws from its current stance, it will prove its lack of neutrality. “If the government shows allegiance to any party, it will raise concerns about the possibility of a free and fair election under its authority,” he added.
Cumilla South District Jamaat Ameer Advocate Md. Shahjahan, former Ameer Abdus Sattar, Chauddagram Upazila Ameer Mahfuzur Rahman, Secretary Belal Hossain, and Chauddagram Municipality Ameer Ibrahim, among others, were present on the occasion.
