German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, currently on an official visit to China, met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing on Monday, 8 December.
During the meeting, Han said that high-level exchanges between the two countries have intensified since Germany’s new government took office. He noted that China and Germany are key economic and trade partners, and cooperation between the two nations is mutually beneficial.
Han added that China is willing to work with Germany to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, strengthen communication, and advance the China–Germany comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
On the Taiwan issue, Han stressed that it concerns China’s core interests and expressed hope that Germany would continue to adhere to the “one-China policy.” As a major country within the European Union, Germany is expected to play a constructive role in promoting the sound development of China–EU relations, he said.
Wadephul stated that Germany’s new government places strong emphasis on improving relations with China and continues to follow the “one-China policy.” He reaffirmed Germany’s desire to strengthen high-level exchanges and deepen comprehensive cooperation with Beijing.
