| MM Rahmatullah: The Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has demanded that the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) administration ensure a fair and transparent election of the Central Students` Union (SUCSU) scheduled for January 20.
In a press briefing at the organization`s central office, Shibir`s central president Nurul Islam Saddam stated that the election has been a long-standing demand of the university`s 9,000 students. He alleged that a certain group, referring to the student wing of the opposition party, is attempting to disrupt the election through violence and intimidation. Islam condemned the opposition`s tactics, saying they are trying to undermine the democratic process and impose their own agenda on the student body. He urged the election commission and university authorities to ensure a free and fair election, warning that any attempt to thwart the process will be met with strong resistance from the students. The Shibir leader also criticized the opposition`s decision to stage a protest in front of the election commission office, calling it a "conspiracy" to sabotage the election. He demanded that the authorities take necessary measures to prevent any violence or disruption and ensure that the election is held as scheduled. The press briefing was attended by several Shibir leaders, including Azizur Rahman Azad, Saidul Islam, Dr. Rezwanul Haque, and Anisur Rahman among others.
