Special Correspondent: Elias Khan has been elected President and Shahnaz Sharmeen Rinvi General Secretary in the Executive Committee election of the Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association (DUMCJAA).
Chief Election Commissioner S A M Mahfuzur Rahman formally announced the results at midnight on Friday (May 8) following the vote count. Election Commissioners Zahid Newaz Khan Jewel, Daulat Akhtar Mala, and Angur Nahar Monti were present at the time.
For the post of President, Elias Khan won with a total of 275 votes. His nearest rivals Dr. M Kamal Uddin Jasim secured 126 votes and Firoz Chowdhury got 14 votes.
Shahnaz Sharmeen Rinvi elected General Secretary unopposed.
Tarikul Islam Khan (Robin), Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, Kabir Ahmed Khan, Sharmin Akhtar, and Shahed Alam were elected Vice-Presidents, securing 340, 322, 289, 233, and 209 votes respectively.
Shakil Hasan, Jesmin Jahan Moon, and Mazedul Hasan Payel were elected Joint General Secretaries with 325, 265, and 197 votes respectively.
Lincoln M A Lutfur Rahman Sarkar was elected Assistant Treasurer with 292 votes, defeating his rival Mohammad Badiul Hasan who received 99 votes.
Tarek Hasan Nirvor won the Welfare Secretary post with 332 votes, while his contender Muhammad Sayedur Rahman got 60 votes.
Mohiuddin Murshid Mahi was elected Sports Secretary with 249 votes. His opponent Md. Tabib E Noor received 135 votes.
Abul Kalam Azad was elected Executive Member with the highest 325 votes. The other elected members are Hasan Ullah Khan (Rana Hasan), Md. Anwar Hossain Majumder, Sharmin Ifta Shams Tuli, Ali Asif Shawon, Israt Jahan Shova, Nazma Binte Alamgir, Shawkat M Obaid Hasan Rukun, Muhammad Rezaul Karim Shamim, and Towfiq Mahmud.
Meanwhile, single candidates for the posts of Cultural Secretary, Research and Seminar Secretary, Communication Secretary, Office Secretary, Treasurer, Organizing Secretary, Assistant Organizing Secretary, and Publication Secretary were elected unopposed.
After the announcement of the results, the newly elected leaders pledged to make the association’s activities more dynamic and inclusive.
