3rd consignment of 58,359 tonnes of US wheat arrives Ctg port
  Date : 01-02-2026

The third shipment of wheat imported from the United States under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement reached Chattogram port on Saturday.

According to the Ministry of Food, the consignment arrived aboard MV WF Artemis carrying 58,359 tonnes of wheat. This delivery is part of the second G2G contract under which Bangladesh is set to import a total of 220,000 tonnes of US wheat.

Officials said sampling and laboratory testing of the cargo have already started. Once quality assessments are completed, port authorities and the food department will move quickly to unload the grain and begin distribution.

With this latest arrival, total US wheat imports under the current procurement programme have crossed 172,000 tonnes.

The import falls under a memorandum of understanding signed between the Directorate General of Food and the US Department of Agriculture, aimed at ensuring a steady supply of wheat to Bangladesh.

Earlier, another G2G agreement facilitated the import of an additional 220,000 tonnes of wheat from the United States, supporting both national food security and efforts to reduce the bilateral trade imbalance, which currently favours Bangladesh.

During the 2024–25 fiscal year, the food ministry imported around 466,000 tonnes of wheat, largely to support social safety net initiatives and food assistance programmes across the country.
