BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday called on the Hindu community to cast their votes for BNP in the upcoming national elections.
Mirza Fakhrul, who is also contesting from Thakurgaon-1, said that despite possible attempts to sabotage the polls, no one could derail this year’s election.
He made the remarks while speaking at an election rally at Mohammadpur union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
“In the past, elections were marred by conspiracies, but this time people are politically awakened and determined to exercise their voting rights while protecting polling centres,” he said.
The BNP leader emphasised unity among all communities, saying Hindus and Muslims alike would participate actively in the electoral process.
Addressing the Hindu voters directly, he urged them to go to polling stations without fear, vote, and return home peacefully.
Referring to the last 17 years, Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the country’s people endured oppression under a ‘fascist regime’ and said the current election provides citizens an opportunity to shape the nation’s future.
He also criticised former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, asserting that the BNP follows the ideals of Shaheed Zia and rejects corruption. Apologising on behalf of party leaders for any missteps during the campaign, he requested voters to respond positively.
During the rally, Mirza Fakhrul was presented with an egg and a clay savings bank, which moved him emotionally. He urged voters to support the BNP’s election symbol, the sheaf of paddy, on February 12, describing it as a chance to serve the people one last time.
The rally was attended by local BNP leaders, activists, and a large number of residents.
