Special Correspondent: Indian forces personnel, in their unabated acts of state terrorism, martyred thirty-three (33) Kashmiris in extrajudicial killings in the first ten months of 2026 in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to data, Indian Army, Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Special Operations Group (SOG), police personnel and notorious agencies, including Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), National Investigation Agency (NIA) and State Investigation Agency (SIA), arrested 4,764 people including youth, students, political activists and women during 12,090 cordon and search operations (CASOs) and house raids.
Many of the detainees were booked under draconian laws including Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA). The data further revealed that at least 53 properties, mostly houses, were destroyed and damaged by Indian police and paramilitary forces during the period.
Additionally, intensifying its colonial-style suppression, the highly communal and corrupt administration led by New Delhi-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, under the direct control of Indian Home Minister, seized 312 properties, including residential houses, land, shops, institutions and vehicles belonging to Kashmiris.
Indian forces personnel martyred seven Kashmiris including three in fake encounters and extrajudicial killings in the last month of October in IIOJK. During the period, 26 civilians, mostly political activists, youth, women and students were arrested during 187 cordon and search operations and house raids, while several of the detainees were booked under black laws, including UAPA and PSA. Besides, properties, including houses and lands, of 19 Kashmiris were attached during the month.
Over three thousand Kashmiris, including Hurriyat leaders and activists — APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sofi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Dr Hameed Fayaz, Bilal Siddiqi, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Fayaz Hussain Jafari, Zaffar Akbar Butt, Noor Muhammad Fayaz, Showket Hakeem, Advocate Zahid Ali, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Rafiq Ahmad Ganai, Farooq Ahmed Tawheedi, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Saleem Nanaji, Muhammad Yasin Butt, Umar Adil Dar, Hayat Ahmed Butt, human rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo — and others continue to face the worst political vendetta in terms of illegal imprisonment. They have been jailed in India and the occupied territory on fabricated charges for years for supporting the Kashmiris’ internationally recognized right to self-determination.
Kashmir watchers and political analysts said that the illegal detentions, confiscation and demolition of properties form part of the BJP-led Indian government’s broader strategy to economically weaken Kashmiris, punish political dissent, create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, and suppress the ongoing freedom movement in IIOJK.
They said that the continued killings, arbitrary arrests, raids, harassment and other repressive actions by Indian forces are aimed at intimidating the Kashmiri people and discouraging them from raising their voices for their fundamental rights and right to self-determination. They added that the demolition of residential houses and other properties, particularly those belonging to people accused of supporting the freedom movement, has further intensified insecurity and economic hardships among the local population.
They further urged the international community and global human rights organizations to take serious notice of the situation in the occupied territory and press India to end human rights violations stop the targeting of civilian properties and respect the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.
