4 killed in Bogura bus-covered van collision

Four people were killed and eight others injured in a collision between a bus and a covered van at Shajahanpur upazila in Bogura district early Tuesday.


The incident happened at around 2:50am on the Dhaka-Bogura highway in Banani area in the upazila.

Three of the deceased were identified as covered van driver Ridoy, 30, hailed from Barishal; Jamal Hossain, 35, hailed from Sirajganj; Shamim Hossain, 40, hailed from Barishal.

Eyewitnesses said, a Naogaon-bound `Shah Fateh Ali Paribahan` bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a covered van coming from opposite direction in the area, leaving the driver and a woman dead on the spot and others injured.

Later, Shamim Hossain died on the way to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital and Jamal Hossain succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 9:00am while undergoing treatment.

The bodies have been kept in the hospital morgue, said Abbas Ali, officer in-charge of Kundarhat Highway Police Station.

The injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital, the OC added.
