  Date : 18-10-2024

A college student died and two others hospitalized after allegedly consuming adulterated alcohol at Baliakandi upazila in Rajbari.

The incident took place on Monday at Sonapur area, confirmed Baliakandi Police Station officer-in-charge Jamal Uddin.

The deceased Joy Kumar Biswas, 17, was a resident of Majhi Para in Sonapur and an HSC candidate at Mir Mosharraf Hossain Degree College. Meanwhile, the two hospitalized individuals are Madan Kumar Biswas, 40, and his son Bijoy Kumar Biswas, 18, both of whom are currently receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Nirod Baron Biswas, a local village doctor, stated that he was called to attend to Joy, who was initially reported to be suffering from gas issues due to fasting. After administering saline, Nirod was called again around 1 AM when Joy`s condition worsened. The family then admitted that he had consumed alcohol, and after checking Joy`s blood pressure, the doctor found that he had already died. The family later took Joy`s body home.

Joy`s father, Bidhan Kumar Biswas, denied that his son had consumed alcohol, claiming that Joy had died due to gastric complications from fasting during the Puja.

OC Jamal Uddin added that an investigation is underway and legal actions will be taken in this regard.
