Imam’s Body Recovered from Pond Two Days After Going Missing in Manikganj

Kamrul Hasan: Police have recovered the body of a mosque imam two days after he went missing in Ghior upazila of Manikganj.

The body was retrieved around 8 am on Tuesday (September 16) from a waterbody in Pukhuria area under Baliakhora Union of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam (38), son of Abdur Rahim Mia of Binanai village in Bagutia Union of Chowhali upazila in Sirajganj. He had been serving as the imam of the local Pukhuria mosque.

Confirming the matter, Ghior Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Md Kahinur Mia said the body was recovered from the spot after receiving information. Following an inquest, the body was sent to the morgue for autopsy. Legal procedures are underway.

Earlier, on September 15, the victim’s wife, Mosammat Mariam, filed a general diary (GD) with Ghior Police Station reporting her husband missing.

According to locals, Rafiqul Islam used to bathe regularly in the pond. Suddenly he went missing, and later on Tuesday morning, locals saw the body floating and informed the police.
