Special Correspondent: Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir’s Dhaka City West unit organized a tree rally and sapling distribution program on Saturday, 23 May 2026, marking World Environment Day.
The event was held to launch Chhatrashibir’s month-long “Tree Plantation Campaign 2026,” announced earlier by Central President Nurul Islam. Running from 1 to 30 June under the slogan _“Plant at least one tree each, so that the green country’s fresh air reaches everyone,”_ the campaign aims to promote environmental conservation and public awareness.
The rally began at Shyamoli and concluded at Badshah Faisal Institute, led by City President Hafez Abu Taher and Secretary Muhibbullahi Al Husseini. Central President Nurul Islam attended as chief guest.
In his address, Nurul Islam urged members to plant at least one fruit, forest, or medicinal sapling and distribute two more. He called for branch-level awareness rallies, anti-deforestation initiatives, and sapling distribution in schools and madrasahs.
Highlighting climate risks, he noted that temperatures in Bangladesh crossed 43°C last year and warned that 17% of coastal areas could be submerged by 2050 if sea-level rise continues, potentially displacing 1–1.5 million people. He urged the government to take immediate action to curb carbon emissions and address climate-related health risks.
Saplings were distributed to students following the rally. Leaders from Dhaka City North and West units were also present at the event.
