1,000 Families Receive Food Assistance
Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: ISDE Bangladesh has distributed food assistance to underprivileged and low-income families in Ward 3 of Kalarmarchhara Union, Maheshkhali Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The event was held on Thursday, 21 May, at the premises of Kalarmarchhara Government Primary School, where food packages were handed over to 1,000 families.
The program is funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre of Saudi Arabia and implemented by ISDE Bangladesh. Organizers said priority was given to poor communities in coastal and hard-to-reach areas.
The organization added that prior to this, food assistance had been distributed to nearly 32,000 beneficiaries in remote areas of the host community as well as in Rohingya refugee camps.
Local public representatives, teachers, journalists, and community figures attended the distribution event. Among them were Mohammad Ali, Panel Chairman of Kalarmarchhara Union Parishad; Aman Ullah, Head Teacher of Kalarmarchhara Government Primary School; journalist Abdur Rahman; and Monjur Alam, ISDE’s Maheshkhali Upazila Manager.
Also present were ISDE Bangladesh Program Coordinator Jahangir Alam, Monitoring Officer Mostak Ahmed, Logistics Coordinator Taj Uddin, Upazila Manager Jalal Uddin, Sarwar Matbar, and other officials and volunteers of the organization.
Speaking at the event, Panel Chairman Mohammad Ali said, “Many people in coastal areas are still struggling with economic hardship. Programs like this restore hope and provide temporary relief.”
Head Teacher Aman Ullah said, “When affluent individuals and humanitarian organizations step forward, the suffering of the helpless is greatly eased. ISDE Bangladesh’s initiative is commendable.”
ISDE Bangladesh Program Coordinator Jahangir Alam said, “We are working to ensure aid reaches the actual beneficiaries. With the support of local administration, public representatives, and volunteers, the food distribution was carried out smoothly. Such humanitarian activities will continue in the future.”
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance. Local residents said, “It has become difficult to run a household in the current market situation. This support has been very helpful for us.”
Another beneficiary said, “For low-income people like us, this assistance means a lot. We will be able to live with some peace of mind for a few days.”
According to locals, coastal areas have a relatively high number of poor and unemployed people, so such humanitarian programs are having a positive impact on the community.
