Kamrul hasan: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced the names of potential parliamentary candidates for 237 constituencies ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The announcement was made by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference on Monday.
In the upcoming national election, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will contest from Bogra-7, Dinajpur-3, and Feni-1 constituencies. Meanwhile, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will run from Bogra-6.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir himself will contest from Thakurgaon-1 constituency.
BNP’s National Standing Committee member Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, will run from Bhola-3, while another Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas will contest from Dhaka-8. Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, also a Standing Committee member, will be the BNP candidate from Dhaka-3.
In Comilla-1, Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain will contest, and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will represent BNP in Chattogram-10.
From Manikganj-2, Engineer Moinul Islam Shanto, Member of the BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council and former General Secretary of Manikganj District BNP, will contest, while in Manikganj-3, Afroza Khanam Rita, also a Member of the BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council and Convener of Manikganj District BNP, will be the party’s candidate.
Earlier, a meeting of the BNP’s Standing Committee, led by Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, finalized the initial list of party candidates.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “After 16 long years, we are heading toward a democratic election expected to be held in February next year. Today, we are announcing the names of potential candidates for 237 constituencies. For constituencies where alliance partners will field candidates, BNP will coordinate accordingly.”
Present at the press conference were Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.
