International Desk: China recorded sustained growth in residents’ income in 2025, with rural residents experiencing faster income growth than their urban counterparts, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China on January 19 (Monday).
The bureau reported that China’s annual per capita income reached 43,377 yuan in 2025, representing a 5 percent increase compared with the previous year. Among them, urban residents’ per capita income stood at 56,502 yuan, up 4.2 percent year on year, while rural residents’ per capita annual income reached 24,456 yuan, marking a stronger growth of 6 percent.
At the same time, per capita consumption expenditure of Chinese residents amounted to 29,476 yuan in 2025, an increase of 4.4 percent from the previous year. Spending on food, tobacco and alcohol accounted for 29.3 percent of total per capita consumption, down 0.5 percentage points year on year, indicating an improving consumption structure. Meanwhile, per capita expenditure on services rose by 4.5 percent, reflecting growing demand for higher-quality living standards.
